Balarabe Ibrahim Gaya is an M&E Specialist, experienced program manager and certified Nurse with 22 years of professional experience in clinical settings and donor funded development programs which equipped him with versed experience of health system at Primary, Secondary and Tertiary level, He holds a Master of Health Planning and Management and is a Fellow of the West African College of Nursing. Mr Gaya is currently the State Team Leader for Kano state on Women for Health Project (DFID/UK-aid Funded).
In this position, apart from providing good leadership of the program at state level, he led the team to established a very good implementation plan with the State Executive Council chaired by the State Governor and the legislative arm of the government, he also led a process that brought about a very good advocacy process between States ministries of Health, Women affairs, Education and other relevant Departments and Agencies. The team was able to support the health training institutions to identify, document and report their problems and or challenges to the appropriate authority through the right channel, the team made a tremendous progress in bridging the gap between the Health Training Institutions and the State ministry of health as well as gap between the health training institutions and the clinical areas in order to improve quality of training for the students, an excellent relationship with the communities and religious leaders in order to allow their wives and daughters to become health workers has also been achieved, this is also by partnering with other DFID funded projects like PATH2 and SPARC to build on some of the existing structures that exist to avoid duplication and ensuring Value for money.
He was an M&E Advisor on MEASURE Evaluation project, the USAID Global Health Bureau’s primary vehicle for supporting improvements in monitoring and evaluation worldwide. In this role he worked closely with programme staff and State government officials to improve M&E for health and promote data-based decision making. Previously, Mr. Gaya was M&E Officer for the Global HIV/AIDS Initiative Nigeria (GHAIN), where he led data collection, collation, analysis, interpretation, and fostered data use for decision making and service delivery. Mr. Gaya is a skilled trainer and facilitator, and has experience working with a variety of stakeholders to achieve results.
